Concerning health

Hip Dysplasia; this disease is a problem with in all sizes, and types of dog breeds from small breeds to the  large breeds.. and unfortunetly it is also in the Iceland Dog..

It is true that there are very few clinical cases of HD in the Iceland Dogs, does not mean that it can't happen. Breeding of the Iceland Dog and even petIceland Dogs should be tested. It is very important to know what the breeding stock score, it is equally important to know if their pups are affected or not! Sometimes HD free dogs can produce puppies with HD, and at the same time, a mild HD parent with a HD Free Parent can produce Free pups so it's very important to look at the overall family HD of the litter.

Eye Disease: Cataracts and Dithichiasis ( when they have extra eyelashes that grow towards the eye causing the hairs to irriate the cornea, leading to wet eyes, tearing and inflammation of the cornea, which if left untreated can lead to futher damage) .

We strongly recommend that you only buy from breeders that have certificates of the needed tests done. It is very sad when a otherwise healthy Iceland Dog goes blind by the age of two or three.

Cryptorchism: Lacking one or both testicles. Do not breed from any males that only have one testicle.

Hypothyroidism: Very rare. The good news about this problem is that it is treatable. However it's something that should be watched for within our own breeding stock just in case.
